BOOKS
I have published a dozen books. Although all of them are related, directly or indirectly, to my interests in scientific ecology, several of them go beyond the boundaries of science as it is usually practised today. My books can therefore be divided into two main groups.
The first group reflects my work in scientific ecology. These are books that summarise knowledge, either in general ecology or in a more specific field of research. In particular, I have devoted several books to the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning and to the ecological and societal consequences of biodiversity 2 loss, which have occupied a large part of my research work.
A second group of books, which I have called "Interfaces", reflects my constant need for consistency between, on the one hand, my scientific activity and, on the other hand, the meaning of my life and the broader meaning of human social life. This second group includes books that lie at the interfaces between science and science policy, philosophy, or poetry.
