Why this website?
I have devoted my entire professional career to scientific ecology, particularly to elucidating the consequences of biodiversity loss for ecosystems and human societies. For me, as for many of my colleagues, scientific research has been an exciting adventure full of creativity and discovery, to which I remain committed. But it also made me realise the huge gap that continues to widen between, on the one hand, the urgency of the major ecological challenges of our time (climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, etc.) and, on the other hand, the powerlessness, or even active resistance, of contemporary human societies in the face of the necessary change of course.

Based on this observation, I embarked on a dual journey of self-discovery (notably through the practice of Non-Violent Communication) and reflection on the causes of the contemporary ecological crisis. This dual endeavour led me, on the one hand, to change my priorities in life and, on the other, to venture beyond the beaten track of scientific practice to explore the interfaces between science and science policy, philosophy, or poetry. Thus, my book "Nature that makes us human", which combines science and philosophy, argues that the relationship of domination and exploitation that modern society maintains with nature is not an epiphenomenon: the entire modern social structure is based on a set of collective fictions that lead humans to reproduce relationships of domination. However, these collective fictions are false beliefs. There is no spirit, subject, human or culture on one side, and matter, object, animal or nature on the other; there is only a general movement of the cosmos and of life, which flows through us and to which we contribute. My latest book, "Comment la Terre vit en nous", which combines science and poetry, shows concretely how much we are an integral part of planet Earth, whether through the material elements that make up our bodies, the multiple channels of communication that connect us to other living beings, or the love of life, which is the most fundamental human need.

Understanding and celebrating nature that lives within us: this could be the motto that sums up the meaning of my actions in the world. Science, philosophy and poetry intertwine, but that is not all. I also spend a lot of time walking in nature, letting myself be moved by the indescribable beauty of my countless animal and plant cousins, water in all its forms, rocks, the sky, landscapes... Photography, which I have been practising for a long time, allows me to fully appreciate and convey this beauty. More recently, I have taken up wood carving, an artistic activity to which I am devoting more and more time. I seek to implement my vision of the world in my work: the act of creation is no longer conceived as the imposition of an arbitrary project of the human mind on inert matter, but rather as a way of participating in the metamorphosis of living nature.
I created this website to share these experiences. You will find a section that briefly summarises my scientific contributions, a section that presents my books, and, most importantly, two larger sections that offer a range of works that are not publicly available in the fields of photography and wood carving.
